This year for the first time we had a separate camp
for the youth ages 14 to 20.

The theme for this year's camp was the Kingdom of God. We talked about what it meant, how one enters the kingdom, the importance of being part of God's kingdom, and characteristics of kingdom people. Brad Fleck preached 2 of the messages and I did 7 of them. The young people were quite attentive, and many took notes. There were a number of unsaved young people who do not attend our church, and we are praying for their salvation. Most likely, this was the first time that some had heard the gospel of salvation by grace.

It was great to have Brad Fleck, a missionary relatively new on island, to help with camp, and his son Joshua was one of the campers. Besides speaking, Brad was in charge of the games, and Abraham assisted him. Darren and John were two other staff who helped with games, free time, and a number of duties. As usual, Donna was in charge of the meal preparation, and some of the staff helped her as needed. What do we have to eat on a remote island like this? Some of the meals were: cheeseburgers and chips, ramen with chicken chunks and cabbage, rice with canned tuna and aji kimchi on top, ham and mashed potatoes, spaghetti, and rice with hot dogs.

It took 2 trips with our boat to get everyone and everything over to the camp island 4 miles away on Monday afternoon. The waves were a bit choppy, so most were rather wet when they got there. We returned to Laura on Saturday morning. A typical day started with breakfast at 7:30, cleaning up the campground, and then devotions at 8:20. The morning service was at 9, followed by games and some free time for the rest of the morning. After lunch we had a short science lesson and then more games and free time. Usually the young people swam in the lagoon and used kayaks. One day we took the boat over to another nearby island, Rongrong, where the kids could jump off (and push each other off) the dock. Supper was at 6, followed by a time for learning and saying memory verses and getting ready for the evening 7:30 service. After the service was a time for snacks, talking, and playing ping pong and various games. On the last night, as is tradition, they played Capture the Flag in the jungle.
