Who I Am

My name is John D. Utter, and I live on the little atoll of Majuro. I was born in 1991 which makes me 16 right now. My parents are missionaries here in the Marshall Islands and have been so for 18 years.

School

Since I was in K4 Mom has homeschooled me and my brother Dan. I am (at least when I am writing this) in 10th grade using BJ DVDs for school. I have 6 classes right now, they are:

As you may be able to guess, Chinese is my hardest class, but it is fun. The class is different than most in the fact that all I learn is conversational Mandarin, not reading or writing. Chinese is not a BJ class, but is from a place called Pimsleur. It is similar to Rosetta of which you may have heard.

Other Interests

Web Pages

I enjoy working on web pages. Since I just got a book on HTML, I am now working on creating pages more. In fact this page is (or rather hopefully is) written in XHTML 1.0 Strict. Please feel free to write with any ideas or suggestions as I am really new at writing web pages. I have checked this page on Firefox and Safari, but I would appreciate it if you email me (my address is at the bottom of this page) if this page does not display properly on your browser (particularly Internet Explorer).

3D Modelingt

I have always been interested in computer programs that help you draw in 3D, but I had never found a good program for Mac OSX. Recently, Dan and I found a program called Cheetah 3D which had a demo that we are using now. We haven't used it much and are just getting used to some of it's features such as caustics and radiosity. In the pictures section are a couple of examples of what I have drawn. Actually, it feels more like cheating than drawing because it is so easy.

Basketball

I enjoy playing basketball somewhat. I do not play it all that much and am not very good at all, but I do enjoy going across the street to the public basketball court and playing after school. If I play in the cooler part of the day, around 6:00 P.M., other kids will come out and play too.

Church Building

As you may have seen from other pages on this site, we here at Laura Baptist Church have finally gotten permission to lease a tract of land on which to build a church structure. Just about every Saturday everyone from our church heads down to Aronpeje (the Marshallese name of the land tract we leased) to work on things like mixing cement by hand or laying block. We would appreciate your prayers for us as we build this church.
